A mixture-energy-consistent numerical approximation of a two-phase flow model for fluids with interfaces and cavitation

چکیده
We model cavitating flows by a variant of the six-equation singlevelocity two-phase model with stiff mechanical relaxation of Saurel–Petitpas– Berry [J. Comput. Phys. 228, 1678 (2009)]. In our approach we employ phasic total energy equations instead of the phasic internal energy equations of the classical system. This alternative formulation allows us to easily design a simple numerical method that ensures consistency with mixture total energy conservation at the discrete level and agreement of the relaxed pressure with the correct mixture equation of state. The two-phase system is solved in two dimensions by a fully-discretized high-resolution wave propagation scheme based on a HLLC/Roe Riemann solver. Numerical experiments show the ability of the numerical model to describe mechanical cavitation processes.

متن کاملThermohydrodynamic Characteristics of Journal Bearings Running under Turbulent Condition
A thermohydrodynamic (THD) analysis of turbulent flow in journal bearings is presented based on the computational fluid dynamic (CFD) techniques. The bearing has infinite length and operates under incompressible and steady conditions. In this analysis, the numerical solution of Navier-Stokes equations with the equations governing the kinetic energy of turbulence and the dissipation rate, couple...
متن کاملNumerical Study of the tongue geometry effects on the cavitation and performance of a centrifugal pump in off-design conditions
In this study, the effects of the volute tongue geometry variation on the head, efficiency, velocity distribution and cavitation structure of a centrifugal pump in the steady flow behavior under off-design conditions have been investigated. Numerical simulation modeling based on the turbulence model with a hybrid grid is used to simulate the flow within the modeled pump. The flow is simulated ...

In this paper two-dimensional unsteady incompressible nanofluid flow in a confined jet at the laminar flow regime is numerically investigated. The Mixture model is consi...
متن کاملNumerical study of flow and heat transfer characteristics of CuO/H2O nanofluid within a mini tube
Nanofluids are new heat transfer fluids, which improve thermal performance while reducing the size of systems. In this study, the numerical domain as a three-dimensional copper mini tube was simulated to study the characteristics of flow and heat transfer of CuO/H2O nanofluid, flowed horizontally within it. The selected model for this study was a two-phase mixture model. The results ...
